During the return of the current, a voltage overload could cause damage to your electrically operated devices. So, when a breakdown occurs, immediately make sure to turn down the heating (or air conditioning) to a minimum, and cut off the power supply to all your appliances, tools and electronic devices.

If possible, avoid opening the doors of your fridge and freezer. Indeed, you never know in advance the duration of a power outage and you could waste large quantities of food by letting the cold escape.

Never use a cooking appliance designed for outdoor use indoors (propane barbecue, for example)

Keep only one light "on" inside and one outside. This will let you know that power has been restored and will notify any utility technicians working outside.
